Follifoot is a village in Yorkshire just 2 miles south east of Harrogate. The earliest record of racing taking place in the village was a two day meeting on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September 1753 when the Follifoot £50 Plate was won by Mr Reed’s Single Peeper and the later Give and Take race by Tripping Nancy for Dr Bracken. The meeting was held in fields on the outskirts of the village which are still known as racecourse fields. The next year a two day meeting was staged from Wednesday 11th to Thursday 12th September 1754 when the principal £50 Purse was won by Mr Mann’s Neptune. A final 3 day meeting ended on Friday 5th September 1755 when the £50 Plate went to Mr Jennison’s Bussler and the Give and Take race to Camilla. |
